The Ultimate Guide to Shopping in Marbella by a Local

Whether you love shopping in every destination you visit or you live in Marbella, this shopping in Marbella guide is for you.

I know everyone says Marbella is expensive, and you mostly find expensive shops, but I completely disagree.

You can find all sorts of shops in the town, from weekly street markets selling the freshest veg and fruit, independent clothing boutiques and shopping centres that have all your favourite brands, to luxury jewellery shops in Puerto Banus.

The best places to go shopping in Marbella

Marbella Old Town

My favourite shopping spot in Marbella is Marbella Old Town, and if you like supporting the locals, you will love it too.

As you wander the narrow, picturesque alleyways of the historic centre, you’ll find many independent shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Whether you’re looking for a souvenir for a family member or friend or a nice summer dress, you don’t need to leave the old town to find them.

Let’s say you want to try local products. I highly recommend going to D-OLIVA Marbella. They have high-quality olive oil, and you can either participate in an olive oil tasting or try local wines. Ronda, not far from Marbella, is actually one of the best wine regions in Southern Spain.

Another shop I absolutely love is Sabor a España! It isn’t an independent shop, as there are many of these across Spain, but I can’t resist entering the shop. The smell of the caramelised almonds is unbelievably good, and yes, you can smell them by walking on the street.

In addition to caramelised almonds (almendras garrapiñadas in Spanish), which I think you should try, you can also get a wide variety of nougats.

Looking for new clothes and accessories? One of my favourite clothes shops in Marbella is TANDEM. Their summer and bohemian long dresses and accessories are so chic! Other good clothes stores are Tatti & Co. and Ginger Y Limón.

If you want unique shoes that are traditionally from Marbella, have a look at 2 Espadrilles from Marbella. I have a pair of these and love how comfortable they are and how they match my summer dresses.

Last but not least, one of the best shops for souvenirs is Artesanía española Juan de Arce, located next to Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación Church.

Local tip

Bear in mind that many independent shops close at 2 pm and reopen at 5 pm, and most shops are closed on Sundays.

Puerto Banús

Puerto Banús is one of the best places for luxury shopping in Marbella. The port, considered one of the most expensive ports in Spain, is home to exclusive brands such as Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Guess.

If you come with your loved one or family, you can shop while others (who might not enjoy shopping as much as you do) can relax and have a drink in one of the marina’s restaurants.

Once you’ve treated yourself, you can do other activities in Puerto Marina. For example, booking a boat tour or having a meal.

I don’t usually eat out in Puerto Banus as I find it overpriced, but you can have good tapas at Casa Blanca.

If you come with friends, I love Rosa Café. It’s a short walk from Puerto Banús. The pink decor and yummy cakes make it worth visiting. I enjoy their lemon tart with meringue and matcha latte.

La Cañada Shopping Centre

La Cañada Shopping Centre in Marbella.

Besides the shops in Marbella Old Town, La Cañada is another of my favourite places to do some shopping.

The shopping centre, located next to the motorway, is a short drive from the centre of Marbella. It has over 100 shops selling clothes, shoes, jewellery, toys, home decoration, and more.

What do I like about La Cañada? Well, it has a lot of parking, so I don’t need to worry about finding a spot, and I don’t need to go from place to place to buy different items. It has some of my go-to shops, like ZARA, H&M, and Primor.

Not only can you buy new clothes, make-up or a camera, but you can also buy food at the Alcampo supermarket, so it’s convenient to do the shopping.

Another reason to love La Cañada is its wide variety of restaurants, from international favourites like McDonald’s, Burger King and Starbucks to Italian restaurants like La Pappardella or Manuka.

I go to Manuka when I fancy something healthy and light, but I sometimes can’t resist the delicious cakes and pastries at La Canasta bakery.

In addition to all of these shops and restaurants, La Cañada has a cinema with eight rooms and VIP seats.

Local tip

Visit La Cañada on weekdays to avoid crowds. The Shops at La Cañada are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm.

El Corte Inglés Marbella

El Corte Inglés, located in Nueva Andalucia, always brings me memories. My mum used to work here, and I remember going to see her a couple of times. The shopping centre has changed since then.

If you haven’t heard of El Corte Inglés is one of the most famous shopping centres in Spain. This chain is everywhere, including Malaga and Marbella.

There are plenty of floors where you can spend a good few hours shopping. Whether you’re looking for new clothes, perfume, toys or home decor, you’ll find them here.

However, one of my favourite sections at El Corte Inglés is the food department. They have a fantastic gourmet area with very good products. If you have an intolerance or allergy, there’s a gluten-free section worth checking out.

Centro Comercial Marina Banus

A view of Puerto Banus, Marbella

Next to El Corte Inglés, you have another shopping centre, Marina Banus Shopping Centre. It’s smaller, but you still have popular shops like Zara, H&M, Massimo Dutti and Women’s Secret.

Most are clothing shops and are for women, but you’re a short walk from restaurants and Puerto Banus.

This shopping centre also has underground parking, which is very convenient. The price isn’t cheap, but it isn’t too expensive considering you’re next to the port.

Centro Comercial Centro Plaza

Located on the outskirts of Marbella and a short drive from Puerto Banus Marina, you’ll find Centro Comercial Centro Plaza

Despite being referred to as a shopping centre, it’s more of a business centre with offices. Nevertheless, they still have a few boutique shops, a supermarket and cafes where you can enjoy a café con leche overlooking La Concha mountain.

What I like the most is the flea market on Saturday mornings. It’s very popular among locals and expats!

Street markets

Don’t want to miss out on street markets during your time in Marbella? Well, there are a couple of flea markets in Marbella, but you can also visit other markets in nearby towns like Fuengirola or Estepona.

  • Mercadillo de Marbella (Marbella street market) takes place in Las Albarizas every Monday from 8 am to 3 pm. It’s a local market that offers everything from clothes and accessories to vegetables, fruits, and plants. It’s a typical Spanish mercadillo with lots of bargains.
  • Mercadillo de Puerto Banús (Puerto Banus market) is next to the Marbella Bullring, in the Nueva Andalucia area, every Saturday. This flea market has a variety of items, including antiques and crafts.
  • Mercadillo de San Pedro de Alcántara. San Pedro is a neighbourhood of Marbella, although it feels like a different town because of its distance. Nevertheless, there is a street market every Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm in the fairground.
  • Mercadillo de Fuengirola. Fuengirola is only a 25-minute drive from Marbella Centre, so you might want to go on a day trip on a Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday when the street markets take place. The latter is more of a flea market with antiques and second-hand items!

Other places to shop in Marbella

Centro Comercial Plaza del Mar

Manuka indoor seating

Okay, I’ve included Plaza del Mar Shopping Centre in this list because I want to tell you all the places where you can shop in Marbella, but I don’t think there’s much to this shopping centre.

There’s a Supercor where you can do your food shopping, although I think it’s overpriced, you’ll find better local food at Marbella Food Market. That’s about it when it comes to shops.

So what else is there? A gym, mini golf and a few restaurant options, including Manuka and Tabernita del Mar.

Yorkshire Linen Prestige

If you’re moving to Marbella and looking for home furniture, check out Yorkshire Linen Prestige in Avenida Principe Alfonso Von Hohenlohe. This shop is popular for a reason.

They have high-quality bed linen, lovely curtains and other home accessories. I’m pretty sure you’ll find somewhere here for your new home.

Mercado Municipal de Marbella

Fruit stand in Marbella Central Market.

Marbella Central Market, situated next to the historic centre, is the best place to buy local produce. You will not only get the freshest ingredients, but you will also find good deals.

Whether you live in Marbella or stay in an apartment with a kitchen and cook your own food, it’s definitely worth getting your food here.

Buy anything from meat, fish and vegetables to nuts, cakes and wine (yes, local wine!)
