One of the quickest ways to travel from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos is by car. The airport is only 6.9 kilometres away, which is a 10-minute drive without traffic.

You don’t need to rent a car if you’re going to stay in Torremolinos because it’s easy to move around the town and it’s well-connected with Malaga, Benalmadena and Fuengirola by bus and train.

Nevertheless, renting a car is your best option to explore places at your own pace, especially if you want to visit off-the-beaten-path locations or don’t want to rely on public transport timetables.

On average, you can rent a car in Malaga for 25 euros per day and a little bit more (about 6 euros extra) with full coverage.

The roads in Torremolinos and across the Costa del Sol are well-maintained, making them easy to drive. You don’t need more than a normal car, but renting a convertible is a good idea, too. You’ll be able to soak up the summer sun.

One important thing to know is that they get busy in the summer months; therefore, you should avoid driving during peak times during the week and on Sundays.

Parking in Torremolinos

If you’ve decided to rent a car in Torremolinos, you might be wondering about things like finding a parking space and how much it costs.

There are many free parking spots in Torremolinos, especially at the bottom of the town, next to the beach. However, I wouldn’t recommend parking your rental car in the sandy and rocky car parks.

In these outdoor car parks, you’ll sometimes encounter “gorillas”, men who will help you find a spot and indicate how to park in a difficult space in exchange for 1 euro.

The rest of the parking spaces are fine. Just make sure there isn’t any sign saying you can’t leave your car at specific times.

In addition to the parking next to the beach, the Torremolinos centre has five “free parking spaces.” You can park your car for free as long as you eat or buy something in the centre.

If you want to leave your car in a car park with security, here are two good parking in Torremolinos:

Trains run every 20 minutes, and the Malaga airport train to Torremolinos takes approximately 10 minutes to reach the centre of Torremolinos.

The first train is scheduled for 5:30 in the morning, and the last bus is at 23:42. If your flight arrives after 12 in the evening, you’ll have to look at taxis if you don’t plan to rent a car.

I’ve taken the Renfe Cercanías train many times, and they’re very reliable. The only downside of taking the train from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos is that you’ll have to walk to your accommodation. It also gets very crowded during working hours and peak season.

If you stay somewhere in the centre, you’ll probably have to walk for a few minutes. However, if you stay somewhere on the beachfront, be aware that it’ll take you longer, and some parts of Torremolinos are hilly, so you’ll have to drag your suitcase all the way down.

Is it possible to get a bus from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos? Yes. Is it the best transport option? No.

Although it’s the cheapest option to get to Torremolinos, it takes much longer (at least 30 minutes) than other modes of transportation.

If you want to take the bus, you’ll have to leave the airport and walk about 10-15 minutes to the bus stop, which is on the motorway. Therefore, the walk isn’t the best or safest option, and it can take you a bit longer if you’re carrying a big suitcase.

You can take buses M-110 and M-112; both stop in the centre of Torremolinos, but they aren’t their final stops. The M-110 goes to Benalmadena, while the M-112 goes to Mijas Pueblo, so pay attention to the stops; you don’t want to end up in other towns.

Taxis aren’t always the best option because they tend to be expensive; however, they’re a convenient and affordable way to travel from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos if you’re travelling with four people.

Taxi prices range from 25 to 30 euros, so if you split the cost among 4 people, it’ll be 6,25 to 7,50 euros per person. This isn’t bad at all, considering the taxi will drop you off at your accommodation, so you don’t need to walk while dragging a suitcase or carrying a backpack.

To order a taxi, leave the airport through the arrivals door and head to the right. You’ll find many taxi drivers who can take you to Torremolinos. Alternatively, you can also order an Uber in advance via their app.

Last but not least, you can also book a private transfer.
