My 6 Top Places to Watch the Sunset in Marbella
If there’s one thing not to miss while travelling to Marbella, it’s watching the sunset. The sunsets in Marbella hit differently, and unlike some activities, you can do this all year round.
Why are sunsets in Marbella so special? I hear you ask. For me, it’s the pretty warm sky colours against the sea or the traditional white-painted buildings and impressive tall mountains.
I have a soft spot for Marbella, and the sunsets are as beautiful as the place itself. Being from the area, I’m constantly looking for the best spots to enjoy a view and a beautiful sunset.
This guide includes my favourite places to watch the sunset, and I can assure you that they won’t disappoint you.

Places to watch the sunset in Marbella
1. Venus Beach

Venus Beach is the closest beach to Marbella’s old town, so if you’re staying in that area, which I highly recommend for its picturesque spots and learning about Marbella’s history, this beach is a fantastic spot to watch the sunrise or sunset.
Walk down Avenida del Mar and towards Venus Beach to enjoy the beautiful sky colours alongside the Mediterranean Sea.
You don’t necessarily need to be on the actual beach to contemplate the sunset, but I think it’s a must in the summer months as you cool down with the sea breeze. Outside the summer months, I simply love walking the beach promenade half an hour before the sun goes down.
✨ Local tip: If you’re looking to surprise or do something romantic for your other half, why not book a private picnic with food and drinks or a photo session at sunset? The picnics look amazing, and it’s still on my list, but my partner and I had an engagement photo session, which included photos on the beach like the one above, and they turned out beautifully.
2. Belvue Rooftop

Marbella is home to a good selection of rooftop bars, and while they aren’t necessarily budget-friendly, I think it’s worth visiting at least one during your trip. You pay for the view, but if you’re after a special sunset spot, you’ll unlikely regret it.
Amare Rooftop, located on the 9th floor of the adults-only Amare hotel, is my go-to rooftop for one of the best sea views of Marbella at sunset.
It isn’t very big, but it feels kind of cosy, which I love. They have tall and small tables, but I prefer the small ones near the glass, as you get the best views.
Price-wise, most cocktails are 15 euros, and they also serve food, but not a great selection to my taste: pizza, nachos and other small bites.
Unfortunately, the rooftop bar isn’t open all year-round, but it’s an excellent option for watching the sunset on a warm summer evening.
✨ Local tip: Go 30 minutes before sunset at least to guarantee a good table, and if you ask for my drink recommendation, the piña colada is fantastic (the fresh pineapple chunk on top is a bonus!)
3. Puerto Banus
One of the most famous places to visit in Marbella is Puerto Banus. While it has a reputation for being expensive and touristy, it turns out to be a lovely place to watch the sunset.
Walk around the port as you see luxurious cars, yachts and high-end boutiques, feel the sea breeze and enjoy the lively atmosphere as the night begins.
This is the best way to enjoy the sunset for free, but I can’t recommend enough booking a sunset cruise in Puerto Banus. The views from the boat are much better! Imagine yourself on a comfortable cruise with your favourite person and watching the sun slowly fade in the mountains. It’s the best way to end the day.
If it’s your first time booking a sunset cruise, make sure to pack a small cardigan as it gets chilly, even in the summer.
Also, I suggest booking this experience in advance, especially during the peak season (June to September), because otherwise you might not be able to do it or do it when you want.
While you can book your sunset cruise directly with a company, I use Get Your Guide most times as it’s convenient and safe, unless I personally know the company.
4. Cabopino Beach

Marbella beaches are consistently awarded for their cleanliness and facilities. The city has some fantastic beaches accessible and quite close to the town centre, for example, Venus Beach, which I talked about above.
However, if you ask me, “Which beach is best to watch the sunset?” My straight answer is Playa de Cabopino. Since it’s outside the city, it feels more unspoiled and natural than other beaches.
In addition to the beach, there’s a small port with bars and restaurants and dunes. The latter are beautiful and a great spot to take photos at sunset.
During the day, I recommend hiking in Artolas de Cabopino, which consists of a wooden path around the dunes. It’s an easy but lovely walk for everyone, including the little ones.
✨ Local tip: If you like watching the sunset with a drink in your hand, Andy’s Beach Bar is a good option.
5. Pier

Embarcadero is among the most instagrammable spots in Marbella. This pier outside the Marbella Club hotel is popular and makes a fantastic place for taking photos at any time, but even better at sunrise or sunset.
My advice is to watch the sunset here, then head to the Lobito de Mar Marbella restaurant by Dani Garcia, a well-known chef in the city, for a delicious dinner.
6. La Concha
If you love hiking and spending time outdoors, you might want to add La Concha to your Marbella itinerary. It’s a medium to difficult trail offering the best panoramic views of Marbella, other Costa del Sol towns and Gibraltar. They’re breathtaking.
Watching the sunrise or sunset from here can’t be described with words.
✨ Local tip: Be a responsible traveller by checking out the trail in advance. As I said, it isn’t the easiest hike, and it’s not advisable to go on it in bad weather conditions.

Tips for taking photos in Marbella at sunset

- If considering a photoshoot, I recommend doing it either at the beginning or the end of the summer. While it’s still hot, there are fewer crowds and a lower chance of rain or bad weather.
- Take photos during the golden hour. This refers to the 30 minutes before sunrise or sunset.
- Consider booking a professional photoshoot. You’ll be taken to the best spots, including the hidden gems many people miss. At the same time, if you’re travelling alone, this is the best way to get beautiful photos. It’s possible to take photos yourself with a tripod, but it has its limitations.
