6 Best Ice Cream Shops in Malaga (A Local’s Top Picks)

The sunny and warm weather is always a good reason to grab an ice cream.

Luckily, Malaga has plenty of ice cream shops to choose from and cool down in the sizzling summer.

Many only open during the peak season because we, locals, don’t tend to eat ice cream in winter. However, a few in the city centre open year round.

In this article, I’m sharing my partner’s and my favourite ice cream shops in Malaga and its surroundings. He’d never say no to ice cream.

Best ice cream shops in Malaga

1. Casa Mira

Casa Mira is an institution when it comes to ice cream. It’s been open for many years and has gained a good reputation in the city.

You can’t come to Malaga city centre without trying one of their ice creams.

I feel like they have fewer flavour options than the other ice cream shops I’ve covered in this list, but they’re all spot on. They won’t disappoint you.

Their ice creams are all homemade and made with natural ingredients, so you can expect high quality. I also love that they have gluten-free and lactose-free options. Although I’m not lactose intolerant, I sometimes avoid dairy.

For me, the mango ice cream ticks all the boxes. It has the tropical flavours you expect, it’s smooth, and you can tell it’s natural.

It’s normal to see queues during the peak season. They have outdoor seating but it’s rare to see it empty.

2. Kalua

Kalua is my partner’s favourite ice cream shop. A few are open in Malaga, including Malaga city centre, and Alhaurín de la Torre, a nearby town.

They have a wide variety of flavours. You can find over 40 different types of ice cream, from strawberry and chocolate to pine nuts and pistachio.

And all of their ice creams are made in house with natural ingredients. If you’re lactose intolerant or can’t eat gluten or sugar, they have a few lactose, gluten and sugar-free options.

I personally love strawberry sorbet. It’s flavorful, refreshing and light. But if you love chocolate, go for the “Death by Chocolate” flavour. It’s my partner’s favourite. It’s creamy, rich and so chocolatey!

On top of ice creams, they also have slushies, smoothies, milkshakes and desserts.

3. Heladería Inma

Ice cream from Inma shop in Malaga.
Pine nut and caramel ice cream from Heladeria Inma

Located in the Las Delicias neighbourhood, this corner ice cream shop has been a locals’ favourite for many years.

I can’t remember how old I was when I first went! The thing is that the quality of their ice creams is consistent and hasn’t changed.

Since it’s a top ice cream choice, you can expect long queues most of the time.

Is it worth the queue? Absolutely. I’ve never seen it empty but if you can, go as soon as it opens.

Grab your ticket number and wait for the number to appear on the small screen to order.

There are many flavours and I recommend trying the pine nut with caramel ice cream. It’s really good, and my go-to option from Heladería Inma.

They have some outdoor seating but it isn’t very big and comfortable, so if I were you, I’d have my ice cream on the go.

📍 Address: C. Moreti, 15, Carretera de Cádiz, 29003 Málaga, Spain

4. Martonela

Another of my favourite places to have ice cream in Malaga city centre is Martonela.

Their ice creams are creamy, flavourful and so good!

They have quite a few flavours and I love that I can add toppings to my ice creams. Yes, that’s right. Add fresh fruits like strawberries, nuts or biscuits.

Have it in a small tube or cone, or served like a sundae if you’re sitting in.

Besides the ice creams, I also love their fresh smoothies and slushies. They’re natural and refreshing.

I still need to try their pancakes and waffles.

5. Helados Cremades pedregalejo

Malaga ice cream from Cremades, an ice cream shop from El Palo, Malaga.

Whether you stay in Pedregalejo or plan to visit it, add Cremades to your list.

This ice cream parlor on the beachfront was renovated recently. The decor is eye-catching and they have a wide variety of ice cream flavours, from pistachio and peanut butter to unique flavours that incorporate ingredients from Malaga.

This is one of the places where you can try the typical Malaga ice cream, which is made with Malaga sweet wine, local raisins, cream, egg yolks, brown sugar, and honey. It’s worth trying if you like boozy and sweet ice creams.

Order a cone or tube and sit in their outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful beach views.

In addition to ice cream, they also serve Tiger Nut drink (horchata), coffee, leche merengada and sweet bites like pancakes.

📍 Address: C. Cenacheros, 34, Málaga-Este, 29017 Málaga, Spain

 6. YUMMY

Okay, so my last ice cream suggestion is YUMMY. Although some of the ice cream shops I’ve mentioned above have gluten and lactose free options, YUMMY is the ultimate paradise for those who either have an allergy or intolerance or follow a vegan diet.

Everything is gluten-free and vegan. Yes, even the cones!

Some of their most popular flavours are pistachio, Kinder Bueno and strawberry.

On top of the ice cream, you can have cinnamon rolls, empanadas and cakes.
