Review of Hotel Miba: A Gem On the Costa Tropical
I was looking for accommodation as I was planning my birthday trip to Salobreña. I saw a couple of hotels and rental houses in the centre, but not so many. However, when I looked further away from the centre, I saw Hotel Miba, and I’m glad I did. It looked stunning!
The hotel is only two-star, but after staying there, I can say I’ve stayed at three-star hotels that weren’t as good as Hotel Miba. It really lived up to my expectations.
If you’re trying to make up your mind on whether this hotel is worth it, this hotel review includes everything you need to know, from rooms and staff to food.

My stay at Miba wasn’t sponsored or part of a collaboration. My review is based solely on my personal experience. However, this post contains affiliate links. Location

Hotel Miba is on the N-340 road, km 325, less than a 5-minute drive from Salobreña town centre. We travelled to Salobreña from Malaga by bus, so we ordered a taxi to the hotel. The location is great, although it’s better if you come by car.
Unfortunately, you can’t really walk from the hotel to the town or beach, as it’s located on a roadside with no pedestrian path.
The taxi rides aren’t cheap; we paid 6 euros from the tourist office to the hotel. On the way back to Salobreña, we ordered a taxi from the hotel to the castle, and it cost 10 euros. Considering the small distance, it isn’t cheap. You can take a taxi opposite the tourist office or request one on the phone.
There isn’t Uber or Bolt in the area, so you don’t have any other option.
Regardless of how you arrive at the hotel, the location is good because it offers the best views of Salobreña town, the Arab castle, and the beaches.
Despite being next to the road, you won’t hear the cars driving through.
Rooms

The hotel doesn’t have many rooms, but I prefer small boutique hotels like Hotel Miba to chain hotels, where you can get lost while trying to find your room.
Each room is beautifully decorated with unique decor, and the best part is that all of them overlook the sea.
My partner and I booked the Queen Suite, and we were impressed by it. We thought the hotel photos we saw on their website were good, but the room looks even better in person.
The suite is huge! There’s plenty of space for two people. As you enter, the bathroom is located on the left. It’s big with two sinks and a long mirror, so you don’t need to wait for your partner to get ready; you can do it at the same time.
Then you have a bidet and a rainfall shower with a square window overlooking the room and the sea.
They don’t have the small complimentary toiletries you find in some hotels, but instead, they have dispensers. I think it’s great as it’s more eco-friendly. However, they don’t have the cheap and average shower gels and shampoos, but the ones from Rituals, which I love. They smell amazing.

When you leave the bathroom, you’ll find a long sofa, a glass table, and two armchairs where you can relax.
Opposite the sofa, it’s the wardrobe. I love how big and robust it is. The pattern reminds me of Moorish architecture. Inside, there is a safe, towels that can be used for the pool, gowns with slippers and plenty of hangers.
The bed is at least queen-size. It’s spacious and comfortable. There’s a pillow per person, so if you’d like more, you can request additional ones.
On the other side of the room, you’ll find the minibar, which includes soft drinks, beers, champagne, chocolates and gummies, and the spectacular bath. I don’t think the minibar was expensive compared to other hotels, but we didn’t use anything from it. You also have complimentary water, coffee and tea.

The bath is another highlight of this room. You have some salts and soap on the side table next to it, so you can prepare your ultimate bath experience. Unwind while enjoying the stunning sea views.
And that’s not all, the balcony is one of my favourite parts. It features seats, sunbeds, and stunning views of the sea and castle.
Overall, it’s one of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in Spain, even though the hotel is recognised as a two-star, which I would definitely say is a three.
Facilities

The hotel only has two floors with rooms, so it’s a pretty small boutique hotel, and it’s probably the reason why it doesn’t have many facilities. Here is a short summary of what you can find:
- Restaurant
- Skybar
- Pool
- Outdoor car park
I’ll cover the restaurant and skybar in detail in the food section below. The pool area is not too big or too small, just ideal for a rooftop pool. There are some sunbeds and chairs next to the pool. The pool itself isn’t very deep. I’m 1.59 cm tall and I could walk all the time, which I love, as well as the views and the waterfall tap.
The pool is next to the bar, so you can also sit down at one of the tables and cool down with a drink.
Important to note: the pool area is tidied up around 7 pm to prepare the terrace for dinner service.
The hotel may not offer many activities, and I see it as an ideal accommodation for a tranquil stay for couples. Still, if you want to be more active, you’re on the Costa Tropical, a short drive from Salobreña and not too far from Almuñécar and Motril, where you can visit castles, explore typical Andalusian old towns, try tropical fruits, or spend the day at the beach.
Food
The first thing that caught my attention when booking Hotel Miba was the room with views of the castle and the sea. However, another factor that made me say, “I want to stay here,” was the food. I had seen great reviews about the restaurant, and as a good foodie, I knew I had to try it.
We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, so I’m going to tell you my experiences for each meal below.
Breakfast

My partner and I don’t usually have breakfast at the hotel because we love trying local cafes, but we decided to pay a little extra for breakfast since the hotel is outside the city and there aren’t coffee shops nearby.
Well, I can confirm it was an excellent choice. Their breakfast isn’t buffet-style, but you won’t leave the table hungry.
I didn’t know what to expect, but once you sit down, the waitress will take your drink order and ask if you’d like eggs. Drinks come with a glass bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice and a plate of ready-to-eat fruit.
The orange juice was sweet and delicious, and our fruit plate had kiwi, watermelon, melon, pineapple and grapes, although they might change the fruit depending on the season.
Then our eggs with bacon came, and she also brought us two trays: one with different types of bread, mini croissants, butter, jam and honey, and one with cold meats, cheese, smoked salmon, sliced avocado, tomato with olive oil and tuna.
Everything was spot on, but we couldn’t finish it all. There are plenty of tables to choose from, but I recommend the ones on the little terrace.
Breakfast is served from 8:30 am to 10:30 am Monday to Friday and from 8:30 am to 11:00 am on weekends. You can book it when you reserve your room or upon arrival at the hotel.
Dinner

First of all, it’s worth mentioning that the restaurant at Miba has two soletes. If you’ve never heard what a solete is, it consists of an award to recognise any type of food establishment that offers delicious and reasonably priced food, excellent service or atmosphere. Here you can learn more about soletes, but the website is only in Spanish.
We booked a table at the skybar, where the pool is, and it was lovely – fairy lights, incredible views and a romantic atmosphere.
In addition to their regular menu, the waiter brought a list of suggested dishes, from which we ordered a few things.
The food is exceptional, and portions are generous. We had a complimentary appetiser and then ordered bread with olive oil, the tomato hummus, tuna tartar, and one of the most classic Andalusian dishes: Iberian pork with potatoes, for the main course.
Everything was delicious, but I really enjoyed the starters, including the black garlic olive oil.
We were very full after these, and wished we only had a starter to share so we could try dessert.
In conclusion, the dinner was amazing and I highly recommend booking a table. You don’t need to stay at the hotel to visit the restaurant.
Ready to book Hotel Miba Salobreña?
Conclusion: Is it worth it?
It’s a yes from me. Hotel Miba feels cosy and charming, and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed my stay, and everything exceeded my expectations. I think it’s the best hotel to stay in Salobreña.
Due to its location, you have Salobreña next to it, but it’s also a great base to explore other nearby towns like Motril or Almuñecar.
