How to Spend Halloween in Malaga (8 Fun Activities)
Are you looking for traditions and the best events in Malaga for Halloween? This guide covers everything you need to know about the spookiest time of the year.
First, Halloween isn’t a big celebration in Malaga or Spain. After all, it isn’t an event that originated in my home country, and you probably know that.
It can’t be compared with the Halloween atmosphere in places like Salem (MA) or elsewhere in the USA.
The same happens with Santa, another tradition that we adopted.
When I was a teenager, there weren’t many Halloween events in Malaga or the Costa del Sol. And the idea of going trick-or-treating was out of the window.
But Malaga City and its surroundings have got better and better, and many places have fun events to celebrate Halloween, from live music and kids activities at Muelle Uno to visiting some of the most unique cemeteries in Malaga.

The best things to do in Malaga on Halloween
1. Take part in the Halloween activities at Muelle Uno

One of the best places to take your kids in Malaga on Halloween is Muelle Uno, Malaga’s Port.
I love how the port comes up with different events and markets all year round, and Halloween is one of those celebrations not to miss in Muelle Uno.
One of the funniest activities for travellers with small kids is to trick or treat around the shops in the port. Most of them take part in this Halloween tradition. This year, the trick or treat (truco o trato in Spanish) starts at 5:30 pm.
Are you wondering what else to expect? A 360 camera to take photos with your scariest outfits, photo calls, live music and competitions.
Other good reasons to visit Muelle Uno on Halloween are the shops’ discounts, Halloween-themed menus, and spooky cocktails.
Before and after Halloween, you can find the Muelle Uno Autumn market with beautiful home decor (see photo above).
2. Have a Halloween photo session at Cliché Selfie Gallery

Cliché Selfie Gallery is a fantastic activity if you love taking photos and Halloween.
This interactive photo gallery is decorated with all things Halloween, from pumpkins to witches and ghosts.
Last year, you could get a discount if you brought a pumpkin!
I advise booking your spooky photo session online as soon as possible.
3. Do a guided visit to the English Cemetery

Visiting the English Cemetery is one of the unusual things to do in Malaga. It was the first protestant cemetery in mainland Spain. Nowadays, it represents the international history of the city.
It’s worth visiting any time of the year, but you can expect special activities at Halloween and Christmas.
During Halloween, the cemetery is decorated with fairy lights, and you can do a guided visit and see a theatre performance organised by Historia Viva Malaga.
Another cemetery you might want to check out is San Miguel Cemetery. It’s less popular than the English Cemetery, but it’s also worth visiting. If you can, see it with a guide! It’s known for its ghost stories.
4. Visit La Concepcion Botanical Garden

Jardín Botánico de la Concepción is my favourite green space in Malaga.
It’s beautiful to visit during the day, but you have the opportunity to have a different experience during Halloween. The botanical garden transforms into a mysterious place!
From 7 pm, you can engage in Halloween-themed activities. You’ll walk through one of its gardens, collect clues and solve riddles. It’s definitely a fun place to visit on the spookiest day of the year.
If you can’t make it on Halloween Day, I like that they often have family activities the weekend before. Get crafty and create your own Halloween masks, and learn more about the botanical garden in a fun and engaging way.
5. Go to a candlelight Halloween-themed concert

Okay, this activity doesn’t happen on Halloween Day, but it’s worth mentioning.
If you haven’t been to a candlelight concert yet, what better way than experiencing it during the spooky season?
This candlelight concert is all about classic Halloween songs. Yes, your favourite playlist with hits like Thriller by Michael Jackson and The Night Before Christmas Medley by Danny Elfman.
Not only is it a unique event to welcome Halloween, but the location is stunning too. The concert takes place at the Gran Hotel Miramar, one of the most sophisticated hotels in Malaga.
Of course, this is more of an adult activity, but if you’re a big fan of Halloween like I am, I can guarantee you’ll love attending this concert with your other half or someone special!
The tickets sell out quickly, so book them as soon as possible.

6. See and buy spooky decor at Viveros Guzman

Some of my family members live in Alhaurin de la Torre, so I do spend time there, and I love going for a little wander to Viveros Guzman, a garden centre.
You might think, “Oh well, what’s unique about a garden centre?” “Aren’t all the same?” Viveros Guzman knows how to decorate the garden centre for each celebration, including Halloween.
If you live in Malaga, you can come to buy unique autumnal decorations, but also check out the Tunnel of Terror. It isn’t very big, but it’s worth seeing, even if you don’t plan to buy anything.
The garden centre also has a bakery serving delicious coffee and cake, so you can make an afternoon out of it.
7. Attend La Noche del Terror in Churriana

Churriana, one of the districts of Malaga situated next to the airport, has been celebrating Halloween with its “Spooky Night” event. This year is actually the 10th edition!
Go to Las Pedrizas neighbourhood between 7 pm and 12 pm, grab a map and head to the different spots to enjoy various activities, from playing football dressed up as a zombie to visiting the cemetery and attending a circus.
8. Take the Benalmadena Cable Car

From the beginning of October to November 2nd, you can enjoy discounted tickets at Benalmadena Cable Car when kids between 3 and 7 years old dress up for Halloween.
You can find some Halloween-decorated spots that are perfect for taking family photos. Find more information here.
What to eat in Malaga on Halloween
Although I’ve already mentioned that we don’t have many traditions on Halloween, we do have some popular foods that are eaten during this time of the year, specifically on All Saints’ Day, the 1st of November.
Huesos de Santo

Do you have a sweet tooth? If so, you need to tuck into huesos de santo, translated as Saint’s Bones in English.
This sweet consists of small cylinders in the shape of bones made with marzipan and egg yolks.
As its name suggests, it’s a typical sweet to eat on the 1st of November, on All Saints’ Day. And if you are wondering where you can enjoy huesos de santo in Malaga, my answer is that it is in most bakeries!
I especially love the ones from La Canasta Bakery, which you’ll find in Malaga city centre and other towns across the province.
You can also buy them in Mercadona. They’re not as good as the ones from the bakeries, but they can be a good souvenir for those who love food.
Castañas

The smell of roasted chestnuts takes me back to my childhood. Malaga weather might not feel as cold as other places, but when the sun goes down and the temperature drops, there’s nothing better than grabbing chestnuts from a stall and walking through the old town, where attractions like the Cathedral and Alcazaba are lit and offer a different atmosphere.
