Ultimate Guide to Gluten-Free Seville

Is Seville gluten-free friendly? I thought I would never ask myself this, but after having to go on a low FODMAP diet, I had to research gluten- and lactose-free places to eat.

The answer is yes. I was surprised by how many places offer gluten-free options or are completely gluten-free. This made my trip so much easier!

I know how it feels when you’re about to travel and aren’t sure what you’ll find, whether it’ll be close to your hotel, etc.

I want to take this off your hands, which is why I wrote this article. I have made a list of the places I visited and my experience, as well as others I didn’t have time to try but had good reviews.

Gluten-free places to eat in Sevilla

These are the gluten-free places I tried during my recent trip to Seville. The order of the list matters, as I’ve put my favourites at the top.

Al Solito Posto

🍕Type of cuisine: Italian

Al Solito Posto is my top choice for a gluten-free meal. Not only for its options, but also for the quality of the dishes.

This Italian restaurant in La Alameda has a full gluten-free menu, from salads to pasta, pizza, and tiramisu.

As soon as I arrived, the waitress checked my reservation and asked who needed the gluten-free menu.

The waitress was super helpful, as I also needed lactose-free options and meals without onion or garlic. She showed me the options and even offered to adapt a dish so I could eat it.

I must say they are really good at catering to intolerances and allergies.

My partner had a delicious arrabbiata pasta from the regular menu, and I had the gluten-free pizza with vegan cheese, salmon, courgette and tomatoes.

I was really impressed with the gluten-free dough as it isn’t always the best, but this one was very good.

Trotamundos at Only You Sevilla

🍅Type of cuisine: Spanish, Mediterranean

I stayed at the Only You Sevilla on my latest visit to the city, and I had breakfast at their Trotamundos restaurant, which is open to anyone, not just guests.

The waitresses are very friendly and helpful, and if you tell them you need gluten-free options, they’ll bring the menu with options and allergen information.

They are also happy to adapt dishes as they did with me.

I opted for the build-your-own sandwich and picked gluten-free bread, tomato spread, olive oil, and Iberian ham. The bread was really nice and soft.

Cristina’s tip: If you have the Palladium rewards card, you can use it at this restaurant for 10% off or apply some points to the meal.

Señora Pan

🫓 Type of cuisine: Venezuelan

Señora Pan is one of Sevilla’s most popular gluten-free restaurants. The atmosphere is lively, the decor is beautiful, and the menu features a wide range of dishes, including ceviche, paella, meat, and fish.

One of the highlights for me was the gluten-free bread before our meal. They make it in-house, and you can even buy some. It was soft, tasty and delicious. We had it with a bit of olive oil.

My husband had the rice noodles with pork and langoustines, which he said were okay as they lacked a bit of flavour.

I had an adapted version of the salmon with vegetables. Mine was served with roasted potatoes instead of the pumpkin sauce. It was really nice.

It’s worth trying, but I just wished the prices were a bit lower.

Postigo 10

🥘Type of cuisine: Spanish

I was a bit sceptical about visiting this restaurant after reading some of the reviews, but as I needed gluten- and lactose-free options, having food here seemed like a no-brainer.

It’s a short walk from Seville Cathedral and Plaza del Cabildo, so right in the city centre. It’s in a very convenient location if you want to visit Seville’s main attractions.

The restaurant has outdoor seating, but I recommend sitting inside as it’s quieter.

I ordered the Russian-style salad, grilled chicken breast with chips and vegetables and huevos rotos (broken eggs) to share with my husband.

Everything was good, but it didn’t wow us. For example, the ham in the broken eggs could have been better.

Overall, it’s a great option for anyone who can’t have gluten or lactose. I also appreciate that the menu lists the allergens, making it easier to order without asking questions.

La Bastarda Sevilla

🌮Type of cuisine: Spanish

La Bastarda has three locations, one in the city centre, one in Triana and one in Porvenir. I visited one in the centre, but they all offer an entirely gluten-free menu.

The menu includes everything from tacos to fried fish, paella, and meat.

My husband and I had the patatas bravas, the pulled pork taco and secreto ibérico. The patatas bravas were good with the right amount of spice. The taco was nice, but you definitely need to order more than one if that’s what you only plan to eat; it’s more of a starter. Lastly, the secreto ibérico was okay; I’ve had better ones.

Overall, the staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. I had to ask about some ingredients in a few dishes, and the waiter went to the chef because they don’t have an allergen menu.

They also have a few dessert options, but we didn’t order anything.

Chök

You don’t have to miss out on a good cookie or cake when you visit Chök Cafe, where everything is gluten-free.

If you have lactose intolerance or you’re vegan, you also have options.

My husband and I ordered the dark chocolate with sea salt cookie and vanilla cookie, both gluten-free and vegan, and they were delicious.

I don’t normally eat a whole cookie, but I did this time. I was also tempted by the cakes, especially the carrot cake.

I wouldn’t say it’s cheap; we paid 9.15 euros for both cookies, but they were worth every penny, and the peace of mind was worth it, since there’s no cross-contamination.

Other gluten-free cafes and restaurants in Sevilla

These are other places with gluten-free options which I haven’t tried yet.

  • Milk Away Brunch & Breakfast. This cafe offers gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Tell staff your dietary requirements so they can adapt the dishes. For example, they have gluten-free bread, so they can make many sandwiches without gluten. Other options are smoothies, acai bowls, etc.
  • Florinda. 100% gluten-free restaurant serving healthy dishes and delicious speciality coffee. Must-try dishes include Japanese-style pancakes and seasonal curry with coconut milk. They also have vegetarian and vegan options.
  • Atavico Ancestral Food. They care about every detail and ingredient in every dish. They have a gluten-free kitchen, and their dishes don’t have added sugars or refined oils. Here you can try anything from a traditional salmorejo to tasty woks and burgers.

Conclusion

Overall, I found Seville to be a gluten-free-friendly destination. Also, there are more and more cafes and restaurants offering lactose-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes, which is great to see.
