Best photo spots in Malaga

There are many beautiful and instagrammable photo spots in Malaga. If you’re short on time, you can’t miss the following.

Alcazaba de Malaga

A photo of one of the gardens with a fountain in the middle in malaga alcazaba fortress.

Personally, the Alcazaba de Malaga is the most beautiful historic building in the city. Its Moorish influences can be seen across the entire fortress-palace. Its jasmine-scented gardens, lovely fountains and panoramic city views make it a must-see.

There are plenty of photo opportunities inside the Alcazaba; however, make sure to visit it at a quiet time, like lunch or an hour before it closes. Avoid Sundays as admission is free, and there will be more crowds.

Muelle Uno

A photo of muelle uno, malaga's port.

Muelle Uno is the name of Malaga’s Port. The area wasn’t built long ago, so it feels modern and clean. The palm trees, the sea, and the views of the Alcazaba make it so picturesque.

Although it’s a fantastic place to take pictures any time, I absolutely love going there at sunset.

Mirador de Gibralfaro

A view of malaga from gibralfaro view point.

Do you want the best view of Malaga for free? Then, Gibralfaro Viewpoint is the best place to go. From one point, you can see the blue colours of the sea, the Pompidou Centre and port, the famous bullring and the beautiful gardens of Malaga.

Sunset is magical, but the viewpoint can get very crowded, especially during summer. So, my advice is to go there early in the morning. The sky colours won’t be the same, but you won’t need to avoid getting people in your pictures.

Soho

The Soho neighbourhood is Malaga’s most artistic area and a paradise for anyone who loves urban photography. Keep your eyes open to discover a unique street and capture it from different angles.

Tips for doing a photoshoot

The truth is that tours don’t give you much information on how to make the most of your photoshoot or photography tour before you actually do the tour, and then it’s too late for certain things. Maybe you didn’t know you could change outfits or suggest locations.

The tour websites aren’t always helpful, but I know what it is like to turn up to a tour and have zero or no idea of what will happen.

The best way to have a great photoshoot session is by doing your homework before you turn up for the tour. Here are my top tips:

  1. Research for photo spots in Malaga (I’ve already provided some photo locations above, so you’re ahead of the game).
  2. Get inspiration on Pinterest or social media for photos. In the case that you’re going to be photographed, check out some poses or angles you like, and then you can show them to the photographer and get the perfect picture you have in mind.
  3. Bring different outfits and prompts. This is optional, but it can make a difference, especially if you create content for social media. However, wearing hats, other accessories, or different clothes for different locations is fun, even if you don’t.
  4. Select the time of the tour wisely. The last hour before sunset and the first hour after sunrise are the best times to take pictures. Look at the sunrise and sunset times in Malaga and select a time around those, if possible.
  5. Don’t take it too seriously, and have fun!
