My Review Of Boat Haus, The Floating Hotel in Cadiz
The first time I saw Boat Haus on social media, I knew I had to visit. Its great location, colourful houses and unique concept caught my eye.
It wasn’t long ago when I planned a trip to La Linea, and, therefore, I booked my stay at Boat Haus.
Having stayed there for a night, I’m sharing my experience with you. So, if you’re wondering whether it’s worth the money or if there are better options in the area, this article should solve your doubts.

Location

Boat Haus is located at the Duquesa port in La Línea de la Concepción, the city next to Gibraltar. It’s a walk from La Linea city centre and the Gibraltar border.
I found the location to be perfect! It’s out of the hustle and bustle of the city, so it’s quiet and peaceful, and it’s only a 15 minute walk from the Gibraltar border, which was important to me as I wanted to go to Gibraltar.
Boat houses

There are a few types of boat houses to choose from: mini classic, classic, modern and grand royal.
Initially, my partner and I were going to book the Mini Classic; however, we changed our minds when reading the description. While it’s built for two people, it looks quite small, and the bed is actually a sofa bed. This is why we opted for the Modern boat haus.
We only stayed a night, but I was glad we chose this boathouse as it felt cosy but not too small for us.
If you care about having a decent space, I personally think this is a good option.
As you enter the house, you have the open kitchen and living room. The kitchen is almost fully equipped: a hob, a microwave, a toaster, a kettle, kitchen utensils, and dishware. There’s a big table next to the kitchen. It’s great to have breakfast together.
Although you can order a continental breakfast basket brought to your boathouse, I preferred to buy a few bits and make my own breakfast. While you have almost everything to make a meal, I wouldn’t spend my time cooking here. There are many amazing restaurants in La Linea.
The living room has a long sofa bed and a flat-screen TV, which is great, but the TV isn’t well placed to watch, as it’s at an angle.
On the left side, you have the bathroom. This was my least favourite room in the whole boathouse. It’s small, very small, and you need to remind yourself not to throw anything (that means not toilet roll either) into the toilet as it can block pipes.
The other room remaining is the bedroom. The bed is big and comfortable, and there’s a TV hanging on the wall and a rack to hang your clothes. What I loved the most was the view of the sea.
Since it’s a floating boat, I’d like to mention that you can feel every movement. We weren’t lucky with the weather, so it rained during our stay, and the sea became a little choppy, making us more aware of the movement. But regardless of the weather, you’ll notice it, especially when stepping out of bed.
Facilities and services

There aren’t many facilities as such since every single houseboat has everything you need. However, they still offer some extra services you might want to consider when staying at Boat Haus.
For example, you can have breakfast delivered to your boat Haus.
The continental breakfast consists of a selection of croissants, breads, cheese, cold meats, smoked salmon, seasonal fruit, and yoghurt.
While it seems quite complete and convenient, 20 euros is a lot. There are plenty of good places to have breakfast in La Linea, where you’ll spend way less money.
They also offer other foods, such as pizzas, burgers, and bagels, for lunch and dinner.
I can’t vouch for the food, as my partner and I decided to eat our way in La Linea instead.
In addition to these, it’s possible to book excursions and activities via Boat Haus. One of the top-selling activities is the dolphin sightseeing boat tour, which lasts 90 minutes.
If you fancy something a bit different, you can rent a boat.

Things to do nearby

One of the biggest perks of staying at Boat Haus Gibraltar is the excellent location. No matter whether you have a car, you can visit many places by walking, as my partner and I did. Here are some of my suggestions on what to do:
- Go on a tapas crawl around La Linea city centre. There are plenty of good and cosy tapas bars and taverns, where you can enjoy the local cuisine. My top recommendation is Bar La Chimenea.
- Visit Museo Cruz Herrera. This museum has impressive paintings from local painter José Cruz Herrera. They usually have temporary exhibitions worth checking out, too.
- Relax at Princesa Sofía Park. It’s also a great place to visit with children.
- Walk to Gibraltar. Crossing the Gibraltar border is easy and quick, and it’s only a 30-minute walk from Boat Haus to the city centre. It’s an experience since you walk through an airport runway. Once in Gibraltar, you can do many activities, from visiting the Rock of Gibraltar to the Botanical Gardens and Alameda Wildlife Park.
- Visiting in the summer? Spend some time at the beach. I also recommend driving to Tarifa for gorgeous sandy beaches.

Conclusion
Is it worth staying at Boat Haus? I would say yes, it’s the most unique accommodation in La Linea, and the location is fantastic. It also offers a unique experience compared to any other hotel.
